Berlin, December 13, 2024 – German steel producer Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH (HKM) has successfully completed the first of seven planned go-lives to replace its legacy Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) with the PSImetals solutions. This implementation includes PSImetals Planning, Production, and Quality modules and is progressing on time, within budget and covering the planned scope.
By implementing PSImetals Demand and Order Planning as well as Caster Sequencing, HKM gains a comprehensive toolset to enhance on-time delivery of customer orders. Replacing the outdated COBOL system, PSImetals will also act as the central hub for sampling and scheduling, streamlining HKM’s operations and simplifying its digital infrastructure. The solution seamlessly integrates with SAP and HKM’s legacy Finishing-Line Tracking System. With this consolidation, supply chain and quality managers can now manage operations through an integrated platform, enabling quick schedule adjustments and smooth execution of production plans.
The project follows an agile approach with a phased release strategy aimed at minimizing complexity and maximizing success. Wherever possible, the go-lives run in parallel with the legacy systems, enabling comprehensive testing and validation before each stage becomes operational.
“The PSI team developed a deep understanding of our requirements and offered a standardized, structured approach. Our fit-gap analysis as part of the project design phase gave us a clear view of all the necessary structures and functionalities of the PSI-landscape. The PSImetals Virtual Factory simulations allowed us to preview the implementation using a steel plant data similar to ours. No other vendor could proof this level of requirement fulfillment. With these, we knew that PSI was the perfect partner for the project,” says Frank Raschewski, Business Sponsor at HKM.
HKM is a subsidiary of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG, Salzgitter Mannesmann GmbH, and Vallourec Tubes S.A.S.
