Case Study WMS editions successfully implemented at RMD in pilot project
RMD Logistics is tapping into a new business segment with the help of the standard edition PSIwms GO.
For more than 30 years, contract logistics service provider RMD Logistics has been offering logistics solutions for incoming goods, warehousing, picking, shipping and returns processing. Specializing in e-commerce, merchandise and advertising material, the owner-managed family business serves around 70 customers from the B2B and B2C sectors. Five logistics warehouses with a total floor space of 85,500 square meters, a high-bay warehouse, a narrow-aisle warehouse and a shelving system provide 85,000 pallet spaces and 130,000 container spaces.
Mastering challenges
RMD Logistics relies primarily on in-house, customized solutions for order processing. The logistics service provider has added more and more applications to its software infrastructure in order to successfully cover increasingly complex requirements. However, the high degree of customization of the individual solutions means that they can only be used to a limited extent by other customers. As a result, the company must develop new software solutions for customers with different processes.
Customer's objective
RMD Logistics wants to standardize and consolidate its software systems in order to bundle small companies such as start-ups or smaller online retailers more efficiently and to grow further in this promising segment. This should enable the company to serve a broader customer base with different requirements. For this reason, the solution had to be able to manage warehouses of varying complexity.
Solution approach
The preconfigured PSIwms editions GO, FLEX and PRO enable RMD Logistics to map larger customer groups in a single system. By using the different PSIwms editions, customer clusters of varying complexity can be created. The standard version PSIwms GO, for example, covers all basic applications with more than 30 preconfigured processes. Start-up projects in particular benefit from this, as the newly founded Fulfillmate department of RMD Logistics can use PSIwms GO to support start-ups with smaller order volumes according to a standardized process. Customer projects that are not suitable for the GO edition due to more complex process requirements or a wider range of articles can be easily managed by RMD Logistics with PSIwms FLEX. PSIwms PRO is available for projects that require a tailor-made and fully individualized WMS. Thanks to its modular structure with integrated click design, PSIwms can also be intuitively configured by the logistics service provider and adapted to the respective tasks of the employees.
The result in detail
The implementation of the PSIwms editions led to the complete digitalization of the process structures at RMD Logistics. In addition, projects can be scaled more effectively because customers can be clustered according to their own programming effort for the respective editions. The standard edition PSIwms GO, which was tested in a pilot project, also opened up a new business model for the logistics company: In the new Fulfillmate department, RMD Logistics now also supports companies with comparatively low order volumes. The company can often get such customers "on board" in as little as two days.

In the course of the cooperation, the relationship between PSI and RMD Logistics developed from a pure customer-supplier dynamic to a strategic partnership based on joint innovation and long-term growth. The close cooperation in day-to-day business enables the continuous development of PSIwms editions used by RMD Logistics. In addition, RMD Logistics offers PSI programmers the opportunity to gain practical insights into warehouse processes through regular logistics internships. In this way, the software developers gain first-hand experience and use this knowledge for the further development of PSIwms.
