Case Study Skycell Migrates to the Cloud With PSIpenta/ERP
With the ERP system, the Swiss company meets the high requirements for inventory management and traceability.
As a manufacturer of air freight containers for pharmaceutical products, SkyCell has to meet the highest quality standards. The innovative technology company introduced PSIpenta/ERP for this purpose even before the start of production - initially in an on-premises version. SkyCell has now prepared itself for further growth and has migrated the system to the Microsoft Azure Cloud.
About SkyCell AG
SkyCell manufactures temperature-controlled air freight containers for pharmaceutical products. Transportation is also monitored using proprietary software and is connected to a global network of service stations that includes storage facilities with cold rooms at or near airports. Customers benefit from a failure rate of less than 0.1% while reducing CO2 emissions by up to 50%.
Challenges
Precise inventory management and traceability of all installed parts as well as the traceability of audits are among the strict requirements of the pharmaceutical industry that SkyCell must meet. From the outset, the company also aimed for a high degree of automation in production - including the integration of robots.
Goals of SkyCell
SkyCell was looking for a modern and open ERP system that could be easily integrated into the existing IT infrastructure, e.g. through interfaces to its own transportation software and the financial system in use. The solution needed to specialize in manufacturing processes and offer sophisticated functions for inventory management and traceability.
The aim was to gain a comprehensive overview of the sometimes complex workflows by transferring them into standard processes and to establish efficient production planning and control.
Following the successful start of production and a rapid increase in quantities, SkyCell wanted to minimize the costs associated with maintaining, servicing and backing up the ERP server and to be able to handle the growing volume of data flexibly and securely.
Implementation
SkyCell introduced PSIpenta remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company took the subsequent cloud migration as an opportunity to migrate to the latest PSIpenta version and clean up both the article and supplier master beforehand. The company used an installed test environment to check whether all processes met the defined requirements.
The result: scalability provides high flexibility
With the introduction of PSIpenta/ERP, SkyCell has a tried-and-tested solution for production planning and control that also enables it to meet the industry's high quality requirements as standard. By switching to the cloud, the company can rely on comprehensive security measures and benefits from flexible scaling options, for example in terms of bandwidth and storage capacity.
If the data volume grows or more users need to use the system, the corresponding parameters can be adjusted quickly and flexibly and partners and suppliers can be easily integrated. The company complies with data protection regulations, among other things, because the servers are located in Switzerland.
Conclusion
From the start with an on-premises version to the migration to the Microsoft Azure Cloud: with PSIpenta/ERP, SkyCell has opted for a future-proof solution in terms of both functionality and technology. With it, the company not only meets all industry requirements, but also has a secure IT foundation for organic growth.
